With the cold weather coming and crisp air, it can make our skin very dry and flaky and also leads to TEWL (Trans Epidermal Water loss) * which is the loss of water in our top layers of skin, and TEWL is not good for the skin as it affects the way your skin protects itself from allergens, bacteria, and environmental stressors. The weather effecting our skin can be very uncomfortable and really isn’t the most enjoyable experience. But let me give you some tips that will help your skin during these cold times.
Moisturize with higher ceramides and emollients- these will help the skins function, also help sooth and hydrate. a great way to get more ceramides and emollients into your skincare is buying an oil for your face like jojoba oil or castor oil; i prefer to mix the two as they have some great benefits for the skin, as jojoba is the closest oil to our skins oil and castor oil is high in fatty acids which will keep in moisture, but also has antimicrobial properties that can reduce acne. Castor oil is very thick and can have an odd scent to it, so thinning it out with the jojoba oil helps a lot, i recommend apply these oils at night as they can be uncomfortable to wear during the day.
Applying a thicker and creamier moisturizer or serum will also have a great amount of ceramides and emollients and can really support your skin.

I’m also a big fan of this product. this brand is also women owned and is made in small batches. Plus is made without any synthetics, so if you are looking to avoid those as well this serum is perfect for you.

Adding Antioxidants to your Routine– You should always have a antioxidants in your skincare routine, but fall and winter are the best time to recover your skin from the damage of UV exposure during those hot months. Using ingredients high in antioxidants will repair the damage and will work to heal your skin barrier, which a healthy skin barrier leads to overall hydration.
Some common antioxidants you find in skincare that have great benefits are-
- Vitamin C
- Grapeseed oil
- Green tea
- Vitamin E
- Resveratrol
- Niacinamide
- Silymarin
every skin type will benefit from the use of antioxidants, as it will restore any damage of the skin. you seriously can never go wrong with adding antioxidants into your skincare. a Few favorite antioxidants i have used.
PCA C&E Strength Max Antioxidant: This is a very powerful antioxidant, so i don’t recommend using this antioxidant if you have sensitive skin, but this antioxidant has vitamin C and E which work hand in hand to extend its benefits, also with silymarin; 3 amazing antioxidants that will also brighten and even your skin.
Earth Harbor Aurora Superfood Luminance Ampoule: Another Earth Harbor Product i love, so many benefits packed into one product. Made with jojoba and grapeseed oil; high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial. Multiple superfoods that are also high in antioxidants, and made with sativa hemp oil and blends of lavender and chamomile to cool and calm the skin. adding a few drops to your moisturizer is heavenly.
NIOD Survival 0: this product is fully packed with loads of antioxidants, you will get a lot of restoring and protecting benefits from this product and feels very lightweight on the skin, and is suitable for all skin types.
Using Products with some form of Hyaluronic Acid- Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our dermis, which is the deep layer of our skin, it regulates our skins activity, like elasticity, water content in the skin, and distribution of nutrients in the skin. in simple terms, it draws and holds water in the skin; like a sponge.
looking for products with ingredients of sodium hyaluronate and/or hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid. you don’t need to buy a whole separate serum just for hyaluronic acid, but i really enjoy the feeling of a hyaluronic serum and the hydration i feel, and also love using it to prep my skin for makeup. But using a product like a serum or moisturizer containing it will still give your skin all the benefits. these are a few products i use all the time and see great hydration in my skin when using them.
Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum: has both sodium hyaluronate and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid but also has miru seaweed to balance skins moisture levels and volcanic marine ferment that plumps and smooths fine lines. packed with a lot of hydrating benefits.

Contains allantoin which is known to calm and soothe skin irritation, also has barrier strengthening benefits. I love love the way this one feels on the skin, this is my go-to when i want to plump and hydrate my skin.
*When applying any products with a form of hyaluronic acid, make sure your skin is slightly damp to really extend the benefits.
Hydration is really key during the fall and winter, without proper hydration our skin won’t function properly. by adding ceramides, emollients, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acids to your regimen you will really see your skin succeed during these time. I find myself always reaching for 3 products when i start to notice drier, duller skin in the cold time. So if i could recommend anything, it would be these 3.
Tirtir milk skin toner: i am on my third bottle of this stuff, i use it day and night every-single day. its ultra hydrating, contains sodium hyaluronate, and has 2% niacinamide that brightens and give great antioxidant benefits. Also makes my makeup apply, and perform beautifully.

I hope these tips help your skin through these drier months and make building your skincare routine simpler for you. overall, extra hydration and protection will make your skin health go far.
